While these types of fractures can occur from normal use if the bone has been weakened, they are often caused by repetitive force, such as overuse during high-impact activities. The pain typically starts off mild and may feel like a dull ache, but it can become sharper if not treated early.
Common Signs of a Stress Fracture
You may have a stress fracture if you notice:
- Swelling
- Tenderness
- Bruising
- Localized pain
- Pain that gradually increases over time
If you're experiencing persistent foot or ankle pain, especially if it worsens with activity and doesn't improve wihit rest, it's important to seek medical evaluation.
