Surgery With Coastal Podiatry Associates

We want to make your surgery process as easy and stress-free as possible. Here's what to expect

  1. Surgery Consultation
    • You will meet with your podiatrist to talk about your foot and ankle problems. Together, you'll decide on a plan and see if surgery is the right option for you. After your visit, your doctor will prepare your surgery paperwork and send it to our surgery scheduler.
  2. Scheduling Your Surgery
    • Once the scheduler receives your paperwork within 5-7 days, she will call you. During the call, she will explain your insurance coverage, and together you will pick a surgery date. She will then explain your next steps.
      • If you are not called within 5-7 days, we are most likely waiting for prior authorization from your insurance company. Our surgery scheduler will call you once she receives this.
  3. What Happens Next Depends on Your Doctor:

If You're Having Surgery With Dr. Keefer or Dr. Moore at McLeod Seacoast Hospital:

  • You will need medical clearance from your primary care doctor. This must be completed within 30 days before your surgery. Once completed, they will fax it to us.
  • A nurse from McLeod will call you 2-3 weeks before your surgery to discuss your medical history and determine if you need any additional tests before surgery.
  • McLeod will call you the day before surgery to tell you what time to arrive.
  • You will see your podiatrist for a follow-up visit within 3-5 days after surgery. Any additional follow-up visits will be decided at this appointment.

If You're Having Surgery With Dr. Menn or Dr. Werter at Carolina Bone & Joint Surgery Center:

  • Our surgery scheduler will set up a pre-op appointment about 2 weeks before surgery at our International Dr. office.
  • Dr. Werter's patients only: You will need medical clearance from your primary care doctor. This must be completed within 30 days before your surgery. Once completed, they will fax it to us.
  • Carolina Bone & Joint will call you the day before surgery to let you know what time to arrive.
  • You will see your podiatrist for a follow-up visit within 3-5 days after your surgery. Any additional follow-up visit will be decided at this appointment.

Important Reminders:

  • If you have a balance for surgery, your payment is due by 5:00 PM EST the day before surgery. Our surgery scheduler can explain the 3 different options you have to submit your payment.
  • Your podiatrist will give you a prescription for pain medication to help you recover.
