Bone spurs (or osteophytes) are small, bony projections that form on the edge of a bone. They often develop in joints or areas where pressure, stress, or friction are frequently present, like the heels, toes, or tops of the feet.

Are all bone spurs painful? Are bone spurs painful

Not all bone spurs can cause pain; some people even have bone spurs for years without experiencing any symptoms. The discomfort from a bone spur usually depends on the size and location of the spur and whether it's putting pressure on nearby tissues like nerves, tendons, or joints.

Where are bone spurs likely to be painful?

Some of the most painful bone spurs develop in:

  1. Hell (Heel Spur) - causing discomfort under or back of the heel
  2. Big Toe (Hallux Rigidus) - adding pressure to the joint when walking
  3. Top of the Foot - making it painful to wear shoes or move normally
  4. Ankle or Midfoot - causing stiffness and reduced range of motion
