There are non-surgical and surgical treatments for Ingrown Toenails. Surgery is usually not required to treat an ingrown toenail, but it may be in some severe cases.
Non-Surgical Treatments
After an in-depth exam, for nails that are only slightly ingrown, the doctor will be able to gently lift the ingrowing nail to separate it from the skin and relieve pain. The doctor may be able to demonstrate the proper manner to trim the nail to prevent recurring problems.
Surgical Treatments
If the toenail was not improved by non-surgical treatments or in more severe cases, surgery may become recommended. A partial nail avulsion with phenolisation (PNA) is the most common procedure. In this procedure, the side of the effected toenail is permanently removed while maintaining a natural look. The best action to take it to see a podiatrist for proper care.
