Jones Fractures

A Jones fracture is different from other foot fractures primarily due to its location, blood supply, and healing challenges. Here are some more ways a Jones fracture differs from others.

  • Jones Fracture:
  • Other Fifth Metatarsal Fractures:
    • Avulsion Fracture: Happens closer to the tuberosity, the tendon or ligaments pull a small piece of bone away.
    • Stress Fracture: Occurs further along the shaft or 5th metatarsal or other metatarsals. 

Blood Supply

  • Jones fractures occur in an area with limited blood supply. This means the healing process will take longer than other avulsion fractures that have a better blood supply.
