What's This Random Ball on My Foot?

A ganglion cyst on the foot often forms when fluid leaks out of a joint or tendon and collects under the skin. This fluid is the same type that lubricates your joints, called synovial fluid. The body may form a cyst to contain the fluid, creating a visible lump.

Common Reason for Ganglion Cyst Development:Why do I have a ganglion cyst on my foot?

  • Repetitive stress or pressure on the foot
  • Foot injuries that irritate the joint or tendon
  • Arthritis or joint degeneration
  • Biochemical issues like high arches or flat feet that place uneven stress on joints

What You May Notice:

  • A soft or firm lump, often on top of the foot or near the ankle
  • Swelling that may increase with activity
  • Pain if the cyst presses on a nerve or rubs against shoes
