High Arch Pain Explained

Why do high arches cause pain?

Cavus feet (also known as high arches) put more pressure on the ball of your foot and your heel, instead of evenly spreading pressure across your whole foot. This imbalance can lead to discomfort and pain in your arches.

Some symptoms you may notice alongside arch pain include:

  • Ache or discomfort in the arch and ball of the foot
  • Heel pain
  • Ankle instability and frequent sprains
  • Toe abnormalities, such as claw toes or hammertoes

What can cause high arches?

Some people inherit high arches, while for others, it develops due to an underlying condition. Neurologic disorders (like Charcot-Marie-Tooth, cerebral palsy, or spinal abnormalities) or trauma can sometimes affect the structure of the feet and lead to a higher arch. 

How can I ease the pain from high arches?
